Rolf Jacob Sartorius was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Since his parents were incapable of taking care of the infant shortly after birth the child was put up for adoption , and then moved to Virginia. The family was raised in Reston, Virginia by his adoptive parents . By the age of seven, he began participating in musicals, where was he discovered his passion performing. After the end of Vine as an American short-form online video-hosting service, in 2017, Sartorius lip-syncing videos posted through the site gained over eight million fans in August of 2016. He believed that social media was his escape from the sexism of which he had previously been an innocent victim. He admitted before Musical.ly that he wasn't very active. He was sure that no one watched him other than the camera.
